Art Thief

The naked sitter in a still life class
She knows there’s more to it than tits n ass
The broken hearted existentialist
He could never figure out how the bigger picture fits

The college cleaner has a PHD
And he talks about form and raw energy
The collected works found in his garden shed
Will be worth a bob or two when he drops down dead

You can call me up to say hello
And tell me what they said about the work on show
And how the panel judges all drive you insane
People have so little talent and they have nothing to say
And how no one really gets it anymore anyway now do they…do they?

Art Thief
We were taken in by you but none of it was true now was it?
Art thief
Do you have nothing left to say its just the price we have to pay to live like this?

Old guns shoot from a replacement hip
They mark your cards give you a split lip
Another day under the microscope
I made a sketch but it wasn’t quite right nope…

The man in the mask has a cunning plan
Says can you can drive the getaway van
Hide out in the sticks cover up your tracks
Catch up on reading Oliver Sacks

And you can call me if you don’t feel well
Or if your body clock has wound you down
And you can hold me close and keep me warm all night
And take me out for a night on the town
Before we go back underground

We were taken in by you but none of it was true now was it?
Art thief
Do you have anything to say / we are going to have to pay to live like this

But first lets travel back in time
To the early 1970’s
Where the madcap laughter tribes meet up with the hippies and the druids…
Forgo the age of reason
To every time a season
A million hippies grieving
For a time they all believed in

Art thief
We were taken in by you but none of it was true now was it?
Art thief
We were taken in by you but none of it was true now was it?
Art thief
Nothing left to say we are going to have to pay to live like this…
