Gigs coming up March/April 1912/03/2019

Gigs in March n April some are solo, most with hyper talented keys man Rob Steadman.  Especially looking forward to the trio of shows  with American friends Rogers and Butler and  Simon Love [Worcester, Box, London]  In London the fabulous John Howard headlines. We’re at the Mars Bar in Worcester on 11th April, The Queens Head in Box [near Bath] and The Lexington on the 13th. Next up is Davenham Theatre in Northwich on Saturday 16th March, the show will feature two sets, some older and some newer as yet unaired songs. Then I’m off to the sea side playing a one off in Sidmouth at the Marine on 22nd March. Ticket details on the gigs pages of this site but do feel free to come with or without [some of the shows are not ticketed] and you’ll be made most welcome…
At the end of April we return to the wonderful Thornton Hough Club, Wirral, one of the UKs finest  independent music venues. I’m especially looking forward to this one, friends in Liverpool and beyond please do come along do, again tickets for this and all the gigs that are ticketed details on the gigs page here.

ta for reading thus and hope to see some of you there

Reader…I’ve spent much of January in the studio tweaking and fiddling and messing around as you do, the rhythm section of the new record is more or less boxed off until next phase of studio editing [the Dave Draper weaves his magic sessions]  the rest I’ve been sweating over, percussion half way there, backing vocals from the band again half way there with more to come. The usual internalised drama I have every time I make a record prevails over words, delivery, tuning in short just about everything. I’m fretting a bit but mostly making good headway, and working hard to make this record a band record [and a great record] as opposed to a Vinny Peculiar record…[great as they all are ha!]

I have GIGS scheduled over the next few months including the majority of the supports on the Wreckless Eric tour. I’ve supported him before and we got along splendidly, I’m really looking forward to them. If you fancy coming along to any Eric dates mail me or contact me via social media for guest passes, I have a limited number so first come first served…do check out the other gigs here on the website x

We’ll be making the new band announcements end of Feb, by then we’ll have press pics, a twitter page and other trappings of modernity…until then x

A Shiny Happy New Year All04/01/2019

Hello all friends & subscribers, excuse the REM reference, Michale Stipe isn’t keen on Shiny Happy People apparently, but I digress…here’s to a better fairer kinder new year, bring on 2019…

Political madness aside 2018 was the year of ‘Return of the Native’, the Worcestershire themed the album came out in June, picked some great reviews from the Daily Mirror to the Irish Times and across many of the online review sites including Whispering & Hollerin & R&R Magazine; most have been posted to the  reviews section here. The album also attracted radio play from BBC 6 Musics Tom Robinson and from Andrew Marsden on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester who have included VP in their Hot Tip selection for 2019. I think its one of my strongest records so please do have a listen here on BANDCAMP where you can also buy the album. Its also streaming via Spotify, iTunes and the usual online platforms, physical copies available from the shop here on my site.

I’m continuing to run workshops for TONIC MUSIC FOR MENTAL HEALTH, this year saw the first in a series of workshops held in secure mental health hospitals with more to come in 2019.

Throughout last year I played both solo and duo shows, the duo shows with Rob keys wiz Rob Steadman, culminating in Irish Gigs [Dublin & Belfast] opening for the hyper talented and fabulous human being Peter Wilson aka Duke Special in November in lovely old theatres. There’s nothing quite like a lovely old theatre gig to pep up a performance and in spite of my broken arm we had a wonderful couple of shows. The arm is now healing and the gigs I was forced to cancel have been rescheduled, details are here.

Next year will see the release of a new band album I’ve been recording with musicians Rob Steadman [keys], Ollie Collins[bass] and Che Beresford[drums] from Parlour Flames, its kind of hard and funky in places and theres a political feel to some of it. We’ll be making the usual announcements once we’re closer to release date.  We’re finishing keys percussion and backing vocals in Jan then go to Dave Drapers Palace of Audio Delight in Pershore to finish things. I’m really looking forward to playing once again with the band, its been awhile, and thanks to those of you sending encouraging messages, they’re appreciated.

As ever I look forward to catching up with you at a gig and via the social media platform of choice where you’ll find my gig updates and news postings. Thats about it, love and light and best wishes to you all,
