Going Nowhere

They all stood around on the raised concrete area beside the swimming pool
Some of them were reading music papers
All carried books
Some had briefcases

And LP records
Were discussed at great length
Emerson Lake and Palmer
King Crimson
Deep Purple

Stuff I knew nothing about

And I was shocked to discover my true pedigree
My true class
My true ignorance

Nothing had prepared me for this
It went off like a bomb in my heart

I worked hard to infiltrate their circles
But it was hopeless

I was going nowhere
